Frequent asked questions (FAQs)

 

Do I have to make a commitment for the whole 8 months? 

Yes, we are asking students to come for the entire 8 months. If you find yourself in special circumstances, such as you have already done a DTS but would like to do the C@R School (Children at Risk School), please contact us so we can negotiate your specific case.

 

I am a foreigner. Do I need a visa? 

Yes, you do. After you complete your application and are accepted for the program, we will send you documents and instructions on how to obtain a one-year visa.

 

Till when can I apply as a foreigner:

 IMPORTANT: By November 10th 2015 has the application time for Non-Brazilians expired.

 

Is it possible to participate in just the Olympic Outreach? 

Yes. Please go to the button “About YWAM,” and click on the option “Olympic Outreach.” There you will find the application for just the Olympic Outreach.

 

What will the 8-month program cost? 

The fees for “YWAM Rio 2016: 8 months that will change your life!” are:

 

in Brazilian Reais (R$) :

 

• R$ 200.00 Registration Fee. (About US$65.00)

• R$ 6,000.00 Costs of both lecture phases of DTS and CER school, including room and board. (About US$1,920.00)

• R$ 1,000.00 basic expenses of food and transportation during the two months of evangelistic outreach. (About US$320.00)

Total R$ 7,200.00  (About US$2,300.00)

 

That means the total for the 8 months  YWAM Rio 2016 program will cost only US$2.300,00

Which airport should be my final destination? You can fly into either the international airport of Rio de Janeiro, called Galeão, or the domestic airport, Santos Dumont. After you have been accepted for the program and your ticket is confirmed, please send us the date you are arriving, arrival time, airline, flight number and airport into which you will be flying.

 

What is the type of climate or weather I can expect? 

Rio de Janeiro has an average temperature between 25 and 35 C (77 and 95 F). You will be here during rainy season, but it is never cold. Depending on where your DTS Outreach in April and May is located, you may encounter some cooler weather. We will be praying for the Lord´s direction for the outreach locations.

 

What should I bring?

Bring as little as possible, because you will be staying in dormitory style accommodations, which can be very cramped. Make sure to bring items for personal hygiene, clothing, Bible and notebook or laptop. Also bring a sleeping bag or sheets and blanket and a pillow.

 

How secure is Brazil and specifically Rio de Janeiro? 

As everywhere and especially in big cities, there are areas of crime and violence. But if you take normal precautions such as always staying with a group, not having valuable items like jewelry, cameras, smart phones and computers visible in high-risk areas, you should not have any problems.

 

About immunizations:

Required: Yellow fever.

We recommend Hepatitis A and B

And the normal tetanus and polio should be update.

 

Is Rio a high-risk city for malaria? 

No, we don´t have malaria in Rio.

                                                             

Is Rio a high-risk city for dengue fever? 

Yes it is, especially during rainy season. Make sure to use repellent when mosquitos are around.

 

Should I have health insurance? 

Yes, it is necessary to come with health insurance.  

 

What are the dates of the program? 

Dates of the program “YWAM Rio 2016: 8 months that will change your life!”:

  • DTS Lecture phase 11/Jan/2016 to 27/March/2016

  • DTS Outreach phase 28/March/2016 to 22/May /2016

  • Short break between the school 23/May/2016 to 27/May/2016

  • C@R (Children at Risk School: 29/May /2016 to 26/August/2016 (Including the weeks of the Olympics of 5 to 21 of August 2016)
